Site-Wide Event
Kaze and Damien have decided to join forces and host a party at Kaze's Kekaa Drive home. Sure, maybe it is a little late for a Christmas party, but that doesn't mean there still isn't a little holiday cheer left, right? The only problem is, their originally planned "small get together" has become something much bigger then that.

I try to remember to forget you But I break down every time I do _____________________________________
James M. Barrie once said, "A safe but sometimes chilly way of recalling the past is to force open a crammed drawer. If you are searching for anything in particular you don't find it, but something falls out at the back that is often more interesting." It was almost exactly for this reason that Noelle Ackerman found herself wandering down Nohea Kai Drive, a place she wouldn't normally venture unless she was paying a visit to Jethro Cohen. Though, in light of recent events, it was incredibly doubtful that she would willingly visit Jethro anytime soon. It would be too embarrassing for her. After the night they had spent together she felt so cheap, like she might as well have left twenty dollars on her pillow for him before she left. Making love to someone was supposed to be a wonderful, special, and fulfilling thing, but now it left her feeling cold and empty. That may be another reason why she was here...
Here's what happened. Noelle had been feeling down the past couple of days - for obvious reasons - and decided it was time to go for a run. It had been a little while since the young woman had let endorphins help rid her of stress. While searching through the closet for a pair of sweats and such to wear, a box had fallen off the top shelf and it's contents spread all over the floor. At first, this only further added to her aggravation, but as soon as Noelle began cleaning up the mess her eyes caught the silver foil that made up the lettering of her senior year yearbook. It had been a long time since she looked through the pages of bound memories, so the girl took a seat on the floor and sat the book in her lap. As she flipped through the yearbook, each page brought forth a new smile and a remembrance of good times Noelle had had in high school, until she turned to the page of the homecoming football game. In the middle of the left page, there was a picture of her and her high school boyfriend together. Damien Torres. They both looked so happy then, and that thought alone brought a hint of sadness to Noelle's pretty face.
After another twenty minutes or so of contemplating past events, the bartender decided that maybe it wouldn't hurt to pay Damien a visit. They had reconnected again over the past couple months, but it had still been a little while since they'd spoken - especially after their failed attempt of having coffee together. Why was it a failed attempt? Because it never happened. However, once during the couple conversations they had had online they managed to exchanged phone numbers and where they were living now. Noelle was able to find the address and now came to a stop in front of one of the big white beach houses on "Rich Man's Way." Only the wealthiest lived on Nohea Kai Drive, which meant Damien had to be doing pretty well for himself. She had never found out what it was that he did for a living, all Noelle knew was that he boxed to help himself keep in shape for it. Whatever the job was it obviously paid well, and even made the girl contemplate enrolling in college and figuring out what she actually wanted to do with her life rather then working at Marco's forever. Miss Ackerman did not want to turn into the little old lady that had let her life pass her by, but she also didn't know how to choose the path that would take her to where she wanted to be. It was kind of like that one quote she'd heard before, "Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried to slam a revolving door." Her life was like that revolving door.
It was a little silly that Noelle was here, now that she thought about it, but all the same she began making her way up the long, paved driveway to Damien's front door. It must be a real pain for whoever it was that had to clean the homes on this street. They were so big that as soon as you were finally done you might as well go and start cleaning that first room again because the dust would be back. Then again, maybe she was too used to the cozy little home that her and her brother split the money for. Big homes were nice - they had lots of space and were usually very beautiful - but after living an a smaller house her whole life it was hard to imagine what she would do with herself in such a big place. Especially alone like Jethro and (she assumed) Damien. It would be great to have a home like this if you had a spouse and five kids, because you never had to worry about running out of room for everyone and there were always places for the little ones to play. It was pointless to dream though, because unless Noelle married rich it was doubtful she would ever have a home like this. Again, she would stick with her cozy little house.
The young woman slowly made her way up the few steps to the front door, her arms crossed tightly in front of her the whole time. It was a little chillier in Maui nowadays since it was December. Granted, it wasn't like they were in Pennsylvania where it snowed but it was still cooler then Noelle was used to. As a result, she wore a pair or sweats and comfy pair of Uggs flats. She still had a tank top on like she would wear in the summer, but over it there was a light zip-up sweatshirt that she was holding close to her. Noelle wasn't the kind to get herself all dolled up when she was just going to visit a friend, so she elected to dress comfy instead of in a pair of jeans and some pretty but itchy blouse. No, Damien wouldn't mind her like this. He had seen her in high school when she had the stomach flu and that was ten times worse then her appearance now. Taking a short breath and unfolding her arms, the woman tapped her knuckles lightly on the wooden door before dropping her hand again and taking a step back.

DAMIEN TORRES
DECEMBER, 2008 – 11:00am DAMIEN'S HOUSE
Someone was told Damien that ‘If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were.’ Told to him in the last moment of high school when he was with Noelle when everything was good and bright, he was going to a good college and promised to come home every time he could to see Noelle, they could make it work. But when she told him that a long distance relationship couldn’t work he thought of that quote and let her go, and now looking back on it he wished he didn’t. He wished he didn’t get into the business he was in now as it hurt him all the time to know that he felt nothing, his heart was an empty hole and pulling a trigger and ending someone’s life meant nothing to him any more. He felt so cold, as cold as ice. A lot had happened since he met Kaze and Noelle on the beach, a lot can change in a month or so.
So let’s go back to only the pervious night, like always Damien was out on a mission sending him all the way to Vega’s to find this drug dealer and blow his head off. It was nice to begin with he wore a nice suit had a couple of ladies want him for a little while until he spotted the target only a couple of tables away from his own, gun tightly tucked into his jeans he awaited their move, somewhere more quiet so it was easier to make his move. Then he stood and removed himself from all the thugs around his table and headed to the bedroom part of the hotel, Damien followed taking another way so it didn’t look bad as he saw the man slip into room 374, he sighed and removed the gun from his pants and stood outside the door. That night was the biggest mistake he ever made, as he ran into the door crashing it down he pointed his gun and found several people standing guns at him and the man looking at him with a smirk. You don’t think I’m that stupid do you? come to my room alone he laughed as people shouted at Damien to drop his gun which he did and stood back. Someone grabbed his arms and crashed him to the ground before some bigger body guard like men started to kick him in the ribs, feeling one break was agony, because he didn’t stop kicking as his hands were held in front of him so there was no way of protecting himself.
They soon stopped and picked him off the floor dumping him onto a chair and tied him up. Looking down he looked at the blood appearing on his shirt already, damn that really hurt, he looked up to see the man he was ordered to kill taking off his jacket and getting his fists ready. So, are you going to tell me who sent you? or do I have to beat it out of you? Damien looked at him and smirked he wasn’t going to say a thing seeing as if he did he would be dead within a few days from his own company. The man struck his face hard and again and again before blood dripped from his eyebrow and lip, he coughed lightly when he finally stopped and drooped forward a little as the pain settled in from his ribs and now his face. The man grew more pissed off before hitting him with a chair, crumbling the one he was sitting on. Damien rolled onto his back and looked up at the group before untying his hands behind his back and stood again and looked at them, If I survive by jumping out of that window, will you let me go? he spoke in a cheeky way not letting them have to pleasure of seeing him in pain. The guy laughed another looking out of the window saying he would never survive that fall and thought it would be funny. Damien grinned and watched the guy he was looking to kill before he accepted.
Damien smiled before running towards the window, as he did he leapt into the air took a knife from his leg pocket and then threw it at the bloke he had been wanting to kill, hoping that would do it. Crashing into the window he fell through and began sliding down the slope before the big decent began, as the end of slope he saw there must be a way into the other floor, the guns were firing from the room grabbing onto the edge of the slope he swung round and threw another window before crashing to the floor in someone else’s room. It wasn’t what he wanted to see, people having sex as they looked at him in confusion, he stood slowly and jogged slowly out of the room, not saying sorry just needing to get out of there. Taking his cell he called the people he worked for an asked for a ride as soon as they could, they said five minutes but that was pushing it. He ran out of the hotel as soon as he could feel the presence of mad thugs were after him, people looked at him trying to stop him to look at his injuries. He stood where they told him too before a helicopter flew in and he looked at it in amazement he felt like some weirdo in a film before he was dragging inside the helicopter and flown away.
They took him back to base they patched him up as well as they could before sending him home just before the sun rise appeared over the horizon, leaving Annie to look after him which she was doing very well as he lay in bed, feeling the utter weakness all over his body. Two broken ribs, fractured cheek bone and two dislocated fingers from grabbing the ledge at speed, bruising rippled his whole body, he felt like he couldn’t move. There was a knock at his door and he watched as Annie left to room to answer it, he was only dressed in log pyjama bottoms, plain grey and no top seeing as Annie was tending to his wounds on his upper torso. He wanted to see who it was standing he saw the money on the table side and looked at it before picking it up and looked at it, $30,000 and extra for the injuries before he launched it across the room and smashed a window in the process before heading down to the bottom floor. He took his time down the stairs and heard Annie tell who ever it was that Damien was not up to seeing anyone before he came into view Annie, it’s ok he spoke before walking slowly and painfully to the door seeing Noelle and ushered her in, looking outside before closing the door and looked over at her again Why’d you come here? he spoke as he looked at Annie telling her it was ok to leave him for a while.

why'd you go and break what's already broken _____________________________________
A cool breeze blew by, making Noelle pull her shoulders up against the unfamiliar chill. The few days when it was cooler here in Maui it was so strange for her, because a majority of the year was warm and that was what she was used to. If she were to be placed somewhere in the northern USA where it snowed a lot Noelle didn't know if she would be able to survive it. Thankfully, she wasn't going to be moved into a different climate anytime soon. As much as she wanted to visit places like New York and Chicago, she would rather go during months like June or July when it would be nice and warm. She dreamed of walking down 5th avenue or taking a ride on one of those...what were they called? Monorails? It was something like that. But she had never gone farther then to the Big Island, it was very doubtful that she would be traveling over the Pacific anytime soon.
It was taking a long time for Damien to come to the door, which made her question whether or not he was home. Deciding she might as well give it a second try, Noelle raised her fist to knock on the wood again right before it was opened by an older woman who looked like she had been awfully busy. "I'm sorry to bother you, but is Damien here?" This wasn't Damien's mother, so Noelle had to assume that it was either another relative that she had not met or a maid or something. Well, Jethro had a maid, why shouldn't Damien have one too? There was no way a man would be able to clean a house like this on his own, at least not properly, unless the man was a neat freak. But Noelle had lived with Will long enough to know that a normal man did not enjoy cleaning. Granted, she didn't either, but she was usually the one stuck doing it anyway because if Will did by the off change give it a try he didn't do it right and in her eyes it was still dirty. Maybe it was the curse of being a woman.
The woman in the doorway explained kindly to her that Damien wasn't able to see anyone at the moment, so Noelle nodded politely. "Okay, well, thank you." It was silly of her to come anyway, when you thought about it. She and Damien hadn't spoken to each other in four years until a couple months ago, and even since then they hadn't conversed much. It was a juvenile thought that she could come here and they would get along great and have a nice day catching up. Well, that wasn't what Noelle really thought was going to happen anyway. Actually, she wasn't entirely sure what she expected out of this visit at all. Maybe she just wanted someone to talk to who may not drill her about why she looked so sad, or maybe she really was interested in having a friendship with Damien again. Either way, it wasn't going to happen, at least not today.
There was a little bit of something else that had brought her here today as well, the thing that kept her from turning around right away and heading back home. Noelle was worried. Despite their history, the girl still cared for Damien, and something didn't sit right with the fact that they reconnected and then suddenly she him for a while again. On top of that, the woman had said that he wasn't able to see anyone right now. What did that mean? Figuring that it would only stress her out more if she decided to fret over it, Noelle gathered herself and offered her goodbyes before she turned to walk back down the porch. Just as she was about to step down onto the first step, she heard a man's soft voice in the background saying, 'Annie, it’s ok.' The voice sounded a whole lot like Damien's too. When she turned back around in her place, her chocolate eyes beheld him in the doorway. She may have let a smile creep over her features, but his appearance made her stand there, mouth agape, for a moment.
Damien was hurt, just from the cuts and bruises on his face it was obvious, but that wasn't the half of it. His shoulders, his arms, his chest, his abdomen, everything was covered in painful looking scraps and black and blue marks. "Oh my God, Damien." Noelle finally found the strength in her to move, and took the few steps back to where she had previously been standing while she waited for the door to open. Being this much closer, he didn't look like he was in better shape at all. "What happened?" The emotional agony that she had been suffering was gone, replaced with the image of Damien standing in front of her beaten up and hurting. At least, Noelle thought that he was hurting, it looked like it was impossible for him not to be unless it was one of those "it looks worse then it really is" things. All the same, this was not what the young woman had expected when she walked up his driveway a few minutes ago.
He gestured her in, and Noelle quietly walked into the large home. The first thing she usually did when entering a place like this for the first time was look around at it's size, but she couldn't. Instead the girl stepped away from the door and turned back to the broken man standing in the foyer. 'Why’d you come here?' That certainly wasn't what she had been expecting. It sounded almost harsh from his choice of words, like he didn't want her to be here, but Noelle tried not to think of it that way. "Well...I was..." Her arms rose and folded in front of her again, but this time not because of a chill. It was a nervous habit. "...I guess I was worried about you. I mean, you never showed up for coffee like we were planning and then I barely heard from you. I just wanted to see how you were doing." Her concerned eyes couldn't leave his wounds. The more she looked at him the more she wanted to know what happened, but at the same time she hoped that he wouldn't tell her.

DAMIEN TORRES
DECEMBER, 2008 – 11:00am DAMIEN'S HOUSE
As Damien looked at Noelle he could see her face drop when she saw his bruises and cuts, not knowing what really happened to him but seeing a broken beaten up man standing in front of her, a person she once used to know but now, it was like they were strangers. He looked down at himself when she spoke in shock of what she was seeing, it must have looked really bad from her point of view but the scars and bruises would heal and he would be ok, but I guess he was used to seeing this and she wasn’t. When she took a few steps back he sighed and let his hand go from his side and clasp onto the wall to keep himself on his feet as the pain struck his side, he held his side with the other hand, arm wrapped around his body as if he was trying to hold himself together. When she asked what happened to him he looked at her before shaking his head and then moved closer to her, he needed to get her inside anyone could be watching them right now. He slowly made his way towards her a slight limp in his walk as he couldn’t straight one side of him, the one which suffered the horror blow of two fully grown men and broke his ribs.
When she walked into his home he shit the door behind her and then turned back round and leaned his back against the door and sighed deeply, taking little sharp breathes as using his lungs fully caused pressure which caused pain on his torso. He didn’t want to sound harsh but why would she want to see him, she had Kaze now and that was all she needed a good man in her life and all people wanted to do to him was kill him, that was the story of his life. He was still holding his side and when he looked over Noelle’s shoulder he could see Annie standing at the kitchen doorway looking at him, her eyes bearing into him knowing that he shouldn’t be moving in his condition. Annie, would you fuck off please?! he spoke loudly but not a yell before she moved off and did her own thing, like removing the bloody clothes and glass from areas in the house. He looked up to the ceiling as he gasped for air when Noelle spoke, I need to sit down he spoke in a murmur before grabbing the wall and made his way to the living room, holding the doorway he stopped for a moment, then walked inside and fell onto the couch, sitting there he looked at her before sighing.
I’m sorry I didn’t make it, I had some things to do like killing people, of course he was not going to say that to her. He soon let his hand move away from his side, blood dipping slowly down his torso before he looked over at Noelle. He closed his eyes for a minute as the pain settled in before hinting her over to a chair or something. Make yourself comfortable please he spoke but seeing as he was in so much pain it was very hard for him to be the normal him. The silence settled in as he rubbed his hand against his jogging bottoms leaving a blood stained mark and then looked at her, feeling her body tense seeing him like this, knowing that part of him thought she at the knife to know what happened, maybe not the whole truth but some of it. I got beaten up by some guys. Noelle he stopped as he looked at her, plead in his eyes. I’m in trouble, but I can’t get away from it. he spoke to her before sighing gently and leaned back in the couch letting his wounds relax for a little while.

i try to take a breath but i'm already choking _____________________________________
The air in the room hung about them heavily, threatening to strangle her with the tension between them. It had been awkward that day at the beach between Kaze, Damien, and herself, but this was even more so. When he raised his voice at Annie to fuck off, she tightened her crossed arms to herself in surprise. She had seen Damien angry before but that was so long ago, and it was different. Back when they had been really close he would be angry over a bad call in a basketball game or something that only high school students would be angry at. Now, well, Noelle didn't know why he was angry with Annie, for she was only trying to help. That was what made this so uneasy for Noelle, because she was afraid that if she said the wrong thing he would snap at her too, and this girl never really knew how to take people yelling at her. No, she didn't go run off and cry, but she didn't know how to deal with it because it wasn't something she was used to.
Noelle watched as Damien then leaned against the door with a pained expression on his face. It was easy to see that he was struggling. It was sort of a womanly instinct that almost made her step forward and offer him her shoulder to help him to the couch, but before she had the chance he had already said he had to lie down and was making his way over himself. She followed him at a comfortable distance, but still close enough that if he were to stumble she could hopefully catch him. When he sank into one of the couches, Noelle rested her hands on the back of one of the chairs and watched quietly. When he apologized for not being able to make it to coffee, she shook her head. "Oh no, don't worry about it, it isn't a problem. It's just that since I didn't here from you I wondered if something had..." She stopped there, being able to see that clearly something had happened. Something that she couldn't have prevented - she guessed? But then, there was always that nagging part of her mind that told her if she had tried hard enough she could have prevented it.
'Make yourself comfortable please.' Always the obedient one, Noelle did as Damien asked her and walked around the chair she was leaning on to take a seat. It was doubtful that she would be able to sit comfortably though, because even if she didn't want it to her back remained straight and her muscles stiff. She was sitting on almost the edge of the chair, watching her old friend with sorrow as he winced in discomfort. Her sweatshirt fell off her shoulder when she sat, so Noelle pulled it back up and then clasped her fingers together to set between her knees as Damien spoke again. Yeah, she could tell that he had gotten beaten up. She didn't want to ask by who, for fear that it would be like pouring salt on the wound. Oh, bad metaphor. "Is it anything that I could help with?" Referring to the trouble that he was in. Noelle hated seeing him like this, and if there was anything she could do she would. "At least let me take you to the emergency room or something." That was a trip that he desperately needed, whether he wanted to be stubborn about it or not. What if he had internal bleeding or something? It could be very dangerous if he didn't go to the ER.

DAMIEN TORRES
DECEMBER, 2008 – 11:00am DAMIEN'S HOUSE
Damien got angry a lot these days, his body was not like it used to be, when he was younger a fight was a little but of testosterone releasing but this was different, he wanted to hurt people, make them suffer and his killings were showing it as the brutality was growing, he was losing not only his control but his composure which was needed in this job, he was making mistakes and not doing his job to way he was taught how to do it. He didn’t mean to shout at Annie when she lingered watching the couple but she knew it was not to be taken offensively to her, he was just angry that he let himself get into this mess and now he had Noelle over worrying about him when he really would like to be alone, to heal and then go back to normal. She would soon have to get used to him being away months at a time, because that is just sometimes to way it went, he needed to look like nothing happened and even a small knife mark on his arm needed full treatment to keep it looking like nothing was wrong with him. He really hoped he could bite his tongue with Noelle being near him, he didn’t want her to see this side of him, he was not the man that she used to know, he was far gone, so distant even the shadow was fading, it was horrible to see someone fall so far and not know when they were ever going to come to the surface, it was not a nice thought to have taunting your mind.
He didn’t like to ask for help, he was ok on his own he had been like that for a long time now, I mean it was just odd for people to come over and give him a hand so he didn’t want one now and was happy as he clung to the wall and shifted his weight from each side as he stepped into the living room, finding the nearest couch and made him over over, the pain digging at his insides with every movement as he walked and sat down. Trying to make himself comfortable was a losing battle as the pain crushed his insides, making him feel ill to the stomach. He could feel her presence near him and knowing her from those years ago he knew that her heart was hoping that he was not to fall or stumble, she was there for him like a shoulder to lean on and he was abusing it, what kind of person does that to someone? The person that they still confess to loving even since high school and instead of telling her about his feeling he just pushed her away and kept that stubborn face and attitude that pushed her away the first time. He sat and tried to make himself comfortable which was a pathetic thing to do before she spoke to him, then stopped before finishing knowing that she already caught on that he was not in the best situation ever, not everyone gets this beaten up and lives to tell the tale a lot of the time, he should be dead, he should be wrapped in a bin bag and thrown into a river by now but he wasn’t and I guess that was a miracle in itself.
The greatest moment in your life, when all your dreams come true, who do you want standing next to you? When someone asked him that so many years ago he said Noelle, that was it that was the moment he fell in love with Noelle as he watched her from across the basketball court when the final’s of the state championship went underway. They won that day and she was standing next to him, he held her for the whole night, the greatest moment in his life, the day he realized he was great, he was not just a normal guy that played some high school basketball he was a state championship winner with his amazing girlfriend standing beside him, holding his hand all the way back to his house. They talked so much that night and hardly slept. That was his greatest moment, actually loving someone back and having them love you too, a mutual love. But where did it go? Did it fade like the sun at the horizon? Did they lose the feeling for each other or did he push her so far that they had to call it quits and walk away from it all? From everything they had, from everything that he knew was good and right in the world. She asked if there was anything she could do to help him, yes take him back to high school, to that night, to the moment she lay on his chest and fell asleep, him falling into a deep sleep with her, cuddled together, feeling her skin on his, but that too much to ask with Kaze in the picture, he had his chance and he messed it up, it was his fault.
I’m ok, promise it was answering both things she spoke about, she couldn’t help him and he didn’t want to leave the house, Annie was a good person and she was looking after him, he was not going to the hospital, the smell and the brightness was enough to make him want to kill himself. He clutched his side as he moved in his seat and leaned his head back, letting his it rest as he looked at the ceiling and took a deep breathe in and out. He closed his eyes before speaking. How are you then? he spoke plainly before the phone ran on the coffee table in front of him, it took him some time but he reached over to the phone and picked it up, accepting the call and placed the phone to his ear. It was his boss, and he didn’t sound too impressed with him, he tried to pass it off as a friend but when he was asked about the man he was meant to kill, he only said. I dealt with it in more of a whisper, it was like he had two faces, two personalities. The one that was sitting there now, only moment ago thinking of the good times and talking to Noelle and the one saying those four words the anger in his voice and the frustration.
