Site-Wide Event
Kaze and Damien have decided to join forces and host a party at Kaze's Kekaa Drive home. Sure, maybe it is a little late for a Christmas party, but that doesn't mean there still isn't a little holiday cheer left, right? The only problem is, their originally planned "small get together" has become something much bigger then that.

The Everglow [[OPEN]] « Thread Started on Oct 17, 2008, 3:00am »
Pandy woke, rubbing her eyes as she did so. Oh god, she had work today. Ugh. She was greeted by a horrible headache, and it had to be the day she had the breakfast shift. She stumbled over to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face. She then stripped down, and hopped into she shower. Ahh, now she was awake. After her quick shower, she stepped out, wrapped in a towel, and returned to her room to get dressed. It was a good thing that her work was so close to her home. After grabbing her purse and tying her hair back into a ponytail, she was good to go. She'd grab a croissant from the restaurant before her shift.

Honestly, Pandy found it annoying that even though they didn't have a strict uniform (for girls it was a solid top, matching skirt, and sandals), there were regulations. For example, she couldn't wear any skirts that were shorter than knee-length, and she was absolutely forbidden high heels and low-cut tops. Well, those regulations wiped out most of her wardrobe. And, they weren't even allowed pants! Mainly because although it was a laid-back restaurant, they wanted to provide the stereotypical Hawaiian atmosphere for the tourists. No matter; as this was such a touristy restaurant (with all the pulled pork and all), she was paid more and had better tips than her neighbors who worked at less touristy places.
"Can I take your order?" she asked, approaching someone sitting at a table, notepad and pencil in hand. It looked like nobody had done so yet, as the table had only clean silverware and an empty plate on it.

It was too hot here, why did there seem to be no winter at all? The only good part about any of this was snow ceased to exist on the island. He was in a grumpy mood as usual, and hungry to top it all off. Emmett hated coming to these places, the tourist places, most of all he hated dealing with people. Of course his own job involved serving customers, but that was besides the point. He was not getting paid to be here, this was voluntary torture. The only reason he was here was because he had no time to go to the plaza and restock his apartment before his shift at the Grille this afternoon. Being a bartender there was easy so far, a lot less violent drunks than he had seen in New York.
He was seated by the window, and his black t-shirt did not help to deter the sun, neither did his worn jeans, but Emmett refused to wear shorts. His fingers ran through his dirty blonde hair, which was pushed up into casual spikes on top of his head. His hair was very important. There was never a day when Emmett woke up and was in too much of a rush to bother doing his hair. As he held the laminated menu in his hand, his washed out blue eyes scanned the selection. Not much appealed to him, so he settled on something basic: a BLT. They could not mess that up could they? Impatiently he strummed his fingers on the table waiting for his server to arrive. Finally she showed up, and spoke in what he thought to be a way to perky voice. His pale eyes looked up at her, a frown evident on his face. She was dressed nicely, and normally he would have let his eyes wander, but it was easy to see there was quite an age difference between them. This only helped to keep him in his 'mood'. "Yes, I'll have a BLT and a... Sam Adams." With that he looked back out the window, placing the menu back on the table. He had no right to be mean to her, but he was just grumpy as usual. To top it off Emmett was pessimistic about every little thing, so to him the thirty five seconds it took the waitress to arrive felt like fifteen minutes.

Pandy gave a smile when she finally got a good look at her customer. Hey, he was pretty cute. Sure she was underage, but hey, age is nothing but a number, right? Besides, she'd be eighteen in a couple months anyway. She had the right to look. He was probably in his 20s, she guessed, so that would be, what 10 years age difference at most? Pshht, no biggie.
Anyway, he finally gave her his order and then turned to stare out the window. She scribbled what he had said down on her notepad. "Would you like your Sam Adams bottled, or on tap?" she asked as she leaned over and picked up his menu from the table. It all depended if he was in a rush or not. Many men preferred on tap, but if they got it bottled, they could take it with them to wherever they were headed. Tucking a bit of strawberry blond hair behind her ear, she waited patiently for his answer.

The sun was too bright here, he preferred the nights much more. Where the darkness of the sky could envelope the entire island, and somehow flood it in a peaceful quiet. That was one of the few things he truly liked about Hawaii, no sirens and gun shots during the night like he heard in New York. Only the distant sounds of numerous animals quietly creeping through the jungle, and once in awhile a car driving slowly by. He kept away from the club scene, so to Emmett this was like living in the rural midwest of the states. However during the day with the tourists, whom he found to be extremely picky and oblivious.... it felt claustraphobic at times. Hearing the young girl's voice, he slowly tuned away from the window. What more could there possibly be to talk about? After she asked the question, he stared at her a second, as if debating on wether or not he actually felt like responding. "Bottled" The unhappy creases remained on his tanning features. He had been pretty pale when he first moved here, but he was slowly noticing his skin getting to be more of a bronze color as the days passed, and his hair starting to look more blonde than brown. He sighed, running his hands over his clean shaven face. He hated having a beard, it was to scratchy, and in this weather he could not imagine the discomfort. Emmett let his eyes wander around the restaurant again, not wanting to leave any excuse for small talk with the server.

"Alright." Pandy said simply, writing that down and nodding. He didn't seem to want to talk, which was a shame because she wanted to talk to someone. There weren't too many customers in the morning, so she would always just have to wait for people to show up. She really preferred lunch and dinner shifts, especially dinner shifts, as that was where she could meet some fun-loving guy who would maybe be willing to hang out with her for a night. In a perfectly appropriate way of course; if you consider clubbing appropriate.
She turned and walked back across the room, shoes clacking on the wood floors as she did. She opened the two big doors and with a swish of both skirt and hair, she was gone. It took a few minutes, but she was back with his Sam Adams relatively quickly. On her tray were both a bottle of beer, as he ordered, and an empty mug, in case he preferred pouring his bottled beverage in a mug for some reason. When she reached his table, she stopped. "Here's your beer." she said as she places his beer bottle on a coaster and the empty mug down on the table.

Emmett gazed out the window with empty eyes. His thoughts wandered to the past. He tried not too think about it too much, since he hated his childhood. There was not a damn good thing about it. He had always been unhappy, and maybe he still was. It was hard to tell when you had never truly been happy a day in your life. All he had to compare the feeling he had now was to when he was five years old and completely enjoying life. Now he was twenty seven, and it was impossible to remember the feeling. When he was younger he used to know, and strived desperately to find it again. But as the years passed he only knew his own sadness, morphing him into the pessimistic man he was today. One who could only remember knowing at one time he was happy... but having no idea what it used to be like. The murders, the orphanage, the foster homes....
He was snapped out of his gloomy thoughts again by the waitress. Emmett paid little attention to her, muttering a "thanks" and knowing it did not sound like he meant it in the least. It did not matter what this girl thought, she was probably some annoying little high school drama queen anyway. He wrapped his fingers around the cold bottle, popping the cap off in one swift movement and drinking straight from the bottle. He replaced the bottle on the table, and noticed the girl still standing there. His eyes finally landed on her, and not i a friendly way. More in a 'why the hell are you still here?' sort of manner.

"You alright?" Pandy asked after she had given him his beer. He looked absorbed in something, and it didn't exactly look like whatever it was was a happy thought. He then looked up at her and glared. Gee, way to be nice to someone who's just trying to be nice to you, mister, she thought to herself. Maybe he was just one of those guys who was always sore and acted like he had a stick up a certain body cavity.
She sighed to herself and looked around for more people. Nope. But the people the next table had just left. If the busboys weren't doing their job, she figured she might as well be useful. She stepped over to the newly emptied table, which was just ahead of the grumpy customer's, and started stacking the plates to make herself busy.

He sat there, his hand gripping the bottle so tightly his knuckles were white. The memories from the nightmare were more vivid today for some reason. This happened once inawhile, and was probably the reason he was so tense today. Of course he was a naturally snappy and grumpy person, but today was bringing it to a new extreme. "How's that your business?" He grumbled bitterly, not even taking the time to glance at the waitress as she wandered to the table nearby to clean. He took a deep breath, and another long guzzle of the beer. The cold rush down his throat did nothing to make the memories fade, to make that terrrible face go away. How could this still bother him? It was so long ago... The bartender leaned forward, placing the beer down for the first time since he got it, and ran his hands over his face. Emmett could feel the slight bristle beneath his fingers, and knew he needed to shave. He hated having a beard it was itchy and uncomfortable, especially in this weather. He would regret this morning's laziness and desire to get out of the house later. All of his muscles somehow felt tight like coiled springs beneath his skin, he could not relax, and knew it would be a long day. Too bad the innocent server had to suffer along with him as long as he was at the restaurant. Sadly being mean came naturally to the twenty seven year old, making it easier for him to take his current mood out on her.

Pandy just raised her eyebrows at his response. Obviously, a touchy subject. Or he just wasn't the type to be willing to talk. At the moment, she wasn't sure which one it was. "Didn't say it was." she said, grabbing a towel and wiping off the clear glass surface that covered the tablecloth. "Just curious. And slightly concerned." she admitted.
She paused momentarily to look over at him, as he laid his face in his hands. Then, she started again. "Okay. If you don't wanna talk, I'm not gonna force you." she finished cleaning off the surface. God, she hated messy customers. However, business was business, and she was getting paid either way.

He sat there, still angry. It would fade at times, but then the deeply rooted feelings would rear their ugly head just as loud as before. Emmett hated the fact that he was like this, he wanted to be numb, and not feel anything. He was typically a man of few words, except when he was pissed off and looking for a fight. Right now he certainly was just that. He brought the bottle to his lips again, downing half the beer in three huge gulps. He slammed it back down on the wooden table a little too hard, and felt the entire piece of furniture tremble beneath the force. "Well don't be. I don't need you butting into my life" He growled in grim manner. His eyes were still looking out the window, but not really seeing the beach that was beyond the glass. They were staring at something else, something far colder and immensely dangerous. The murderer, that bastard ruined everything. And for what? They had never done anything wrong... He ran a hand through his messy hair, which was held up by a small amount of gel. Usually he was a little neater than this, but he had not gotten much sleep the night before. Emmett did not bother to pay anymore attention to the waitress, she was a nuisance anyway. Why did people try to be so damn helpful, when they really just wanted for you to say every thing was fine so they could go on with life. He knew whenever he greeted someone at the bar, he wanted them to just say hello and order, he did not care about them or what shit was going on in their life. Why should he?

Pandy shrugged. "Alright, fine." she said simply. If he was going to be a jerk, she wasn't going to bother. She finished clearing off the table and grabbed the stack of plates and glasses and disappeared into the back room. So much for a cute, older guy.
A minute later, she reappeared, holding a plate with his BLT on it. She walked over to his table. Click click click, her shoes went against the wood floors. She placed his plate down in front of him and nodded. "Enjoy." was all she said before turning and stepping over to another couple to ask for their order.
